FBS Forex Broker and Helpers Social Development Foundation (HSDF) have donated over 200 books on various subjects to school children in Community Primary School, Imezi-Olo in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The books covered subjects such as English, Mathematics and basic/primary Sciences; while school uniforms, bags and stationery items for use throughout the school year were also donated to the pupils.
Five classrooms in the school were also equipped with whiteboards by the organisations to foster a finer learning environment in the school.
Presenting the donation in the school on Wednesday, Mr Diego Lima, FBS’s Business Development Manager for the African Region, said that the collaboration with HSDF to reach the students aligns with FBS’s ongoing commitment to promoting education.
Lima said FBS, which is a leading global forex broker, was poised to improve local communities’ access to quality learning opportunities.
“FBS is honoured to contribute to the Ezeagu community by sending the essentials for better quality education for the local children. We at FBS believe that education is the driving force of positive changes,” he said.
Corroborating, the Chairman of HSDF, Mr Chidi Okeke, said that his charity organisation’s collaboration with FBS would go a long way in ameliorating the challenges faced by pupils especially in rural communities.
“The items you can see here are from FBS. They sent us here to give you all these things free-of-charge. The aim is to help parents take care of some of the educational needs of the pupils,” Okeke said.
Speaking, the Member Representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Rep Sunday Umeha, thanked FBS and HSDF for coming to the aid of his constituents, adding that the gesture falls within his agenda to tackle educational challenges among his people.
Umeha said: “We are elated by the things these organisations have decided to do for our community. We are always ready to support any group which is ready to support education.”
Also, the Headmistress of the School, Mrs Regina Oguaya, expressed gratitude to FBS and HSDF Foundation for intervening to help the pupils.
“Before now, pupils come to school without writing material, school uniforms and sandals. This donation has made us all happy. I believe it will reflect in the academic performance of the children,” she said.
On his part, the President General of Imezi-Olo autonomous community, Chief Obinna Anonde, said he was happy that his community was remembered by FBS and HSDF Foundation.
“I am praying that God will bless them. Today is the happiest day in the history of my community. Before now, they were like farmers without tools. But now they have all the things they need,” Anonde said.
One of the parents, Mrs Angela Aniagba said: “I am happy. My son got a bag, books and a school uniform. God will bless all of you.”
Another parent, Mrs Nkiruka Ezeakor, said that it was the first time her child was getting something like this, adding: “God will bless you people because there are some people who receive materials for people like us and they hide them.”
