The Agu Umabor Elites Group in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State has appealed to Governor Peter Mbah to rescue the community from gully erosion threatening the existence of the community.
The Group made the appeal recently in a statement issued and signed by Gill Abonyi, the President, after their Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at Umabor Agu.
The group lamented that, the only road in the community, Agu Umabor-Breme-Eha-Alumona road that was almost completed by the last administration was abandoned hence the community is about to be completely cut off in a matter of months.
“This is because of heavy gully created by the abandoned road project.
“The road is so crucial as it connects Agu- Umabor – Mbu- Ikem and Enugu.
“The community is agrarian with a population of over 100,000,” the group said.
According to the group, the only Primary school in the area is also in a dilapidated form.
“Also, the Rural Electrification project in the community has also been abandoned despite the community’s efforts and individual contributions for three standard brand new Transformers.
“We, the Agu Umabor Elites Group, therefore, appeal to the forward looking Governor of Enugu state to intervene and save our community from the inherent ecological dangers before the rain comes,” they said.
The AGM saw the Election of new officials with Gil Emeka Abonyi as President, Josephat Onah as Vice President, Engr Chris Ogbu returned as Secretary General and Boniface Ugwuanyi as PRO.
The Group thanked the Parish Priest of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Breme, Rev .Fr .Edward C. Okeke and Agu-Umabor Town Union President, Chris Odo, and Igwe Kelvin Mamah, for their efforts in solving the problems of the community.
