Four persons have been confirmed dead as gunmen opened fire at Ohii junction along Owerri–Orlu Road in Imo State.
A video clip circulating online showed the lifeless bodies of the four persons, two policemen and two civilians.
According to sources the policemen were on duty in the area, when the fleeing gunmen opened fire at the junction killing them.
The Police public relations officer in the state Mr. Henry Okoye, when contacted said the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, condemns the barbaric attack and has ordered the Command’s Tactical Team to go all out in synergy with other sister security agencies and clamp down on the hoodlums responsible for the attack.
The CP who described the incident as unfortunate, vowed that no stone will be left unturned in ensuring that the perpetrators are all arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The CP calls on well-meaning residents of Imo State who may have any useful information that may lead to the arrest of the hoodlums responsible for the attack to kindly report at the nearest Police State or via the Command emergency line 08034773600 or 08098880197,” Okoye said.
Meanwhile, there were several reports of attacks on some Point of Sales (POS) operators in parts of Owerri on Monday.
Report says, some armed men in a Corolla vehicle attacked some POS shops and passersby around Rapour Junction on Owerri-Orlu road, dispossessing them of cash and valuables.
Another POS operator was said to have been robbed at Amawire–Orji on the Owerri–Okigwe Road and also at Christiana junction at Egbu Road.
