The governorship candidate of Accord Party in the 2023 General Election in Enugu State, Barrister John Nwobodo, has called for the dismantling of all security roadblocks in the state.
Nwobodo made the call while speaking at an enlarged meeting of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and relevant stakeholders held in Enugu.
He said though there was the need to beef up security across the state this can be realised without infringing on the rights of the citizens.
“A situation where law abiding citizens are subjected to abuse in the name of fighting insecurity is unacceptable and should be stopped.
“Citizens of the state as well as other visitors coming to the state are made to disembark from their vehicles and forced to put their hands on their heads is a violation of people’s rights,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a communique at the end of the enlarged meeting, IPAC noted with delight the improved security in the State, courtesy of the Governor of Enugu State, Gov. Peter Mbah.
It commended the governor in this regard and urged him to continue in the same direction.
IPAC also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure unbiased conduct of Saturday’s rerun elections in the state
It also requested INEC to have the commission’s approved observers to vet the credibility of its elections.
The communique signed by the State Chairman, Mr Godwin Alor; and 19 state chairmen of political parties in Enugu State; further charged Security Agencies working in the state to provide adequate security before, during and after the election.
