The kidnapped Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, Professor Godwin Emezue, has regained his freedom after spending 11 days in the kidnappers’ den.
Professor Emezue was abducted by unknown gunmen while trying to buy fuel at a petrol station near his home in Umuahia.
His abductors reportedly snatched an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card from the DVC’s wife who was with her husband, before zooming off towards the Imo boundary.
Reports say N25 million ransom was paid by family members before the DVC was released.
It was also said that the Professor of Linguistics was manhandled by his abductors during his time in captivity, and has now been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for immediate medical treatment.
The Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the university, Mr Chijioke Nwogu, confirmed to Ikengaonline that the DVC had regained his freedom.
He expressed delight over the cheery news of his release but did not give details.
