Barr. Chimezie Nkwuo, the Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Council of Enugu State, has charged the beneficiaries of his scholarship scheme to intensify efforts towards making the council and their various families proud in the course of their studies.
Nkwuo said this on Friday at at the Council Secretariat, Uwani, Enugu, while presenting a Cheque that will cover the 2023/2024 academic session to the students.
He stated the gesture was triggered by his administration’s passion for education.
According to him: “What we are doing is service to God and humanity.”
The chairman encouraged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously, while letting them know that it is their performance that will encourage him to do more.
He said that everyone of them was expected to submit all the receipts of their school fees payment and their results showing their academic performance per session to the scholarship committee.
“These will be the criteria to qualify you to receive the scholarship allowance for the next session,” he said.
He further urged the beneficiaries to study hard and pray well, so that they may graduate with First Class, adding that “anybody who graduates with First Class will stand the chance of being sponsored for Master’s Degree.”
The Coordinator of the programme, Mr Emmanuel Ugwu, while speaking on behalf of the leadership of the scholarship committee, hailed the Chairman for his noticeable development strides in the Council Area, especially the newly commissioned Senator Jim Nwobodo Pavilion among others.
He also thanked the Mayor for the payment of Jamb registration fees for over 130 Enugu South students and the previous payment of WAEC fees.
He said that they have come to appreciate the Chairman for his benevolence on the side of the undergraduates.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Loveth Mmesoma thanked and appreciated the Chairman for the opportunity given to them to study their choice of courses in life.
“Sir, On behalf of my fellow scholarship beneficiaries and I, we are here to appreciate you. Indeed you are a gift to humanity.
“Thank you so much for making our dreams come through and for giving us the opportunity to go to school.
“Words are not enough for us to express our gratitude but, our prayer is that God Almighty will bless and protect you and your family. Where others go and fail, you shall go and succeed,” she said.
In the same vein the parents of the beneficiaries equally expressed their gratitude to Nkwuo for sustaining this kind gesture despite the situation of today’s economy.
