The Truth, Justice and Peace Commission set up by Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State will submit report of its findings on insecurity in South-East to the governor on Wednesday.
Professor Chidi Odinkalu, Chairman of the Commission, who disclosed this on Monday in Awka, expressed hope that the report would mark a watershed in the quest for peace, reconciliation and stability in the South-East.
Recall that Soludo set up the Commission in June 2022 after spending three months in office as governor of Anambra State. The move signaled his earnest and genuine quest for peace in Anambra and South-East at large.
Speaking on the work of the Commission, Odinkalu, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission, frontline Human Rights Lawyer and activist, said the job was tasking but a great privilege.
He said the Commission has enjoyed the support of the government and communities around South-East Nigeria, which shows that people in the region wanted an end to this insecurity.
He thanked the Government of Anambra State for the genuine quest for an end to insecurity which he described as hydra-headed arising from multiplicity of causes which were all captured.
Odinkalu said he hoped that the report would also serve as a reference point for other states which may want to address the security situation within their domain with sincerity and commitment as well as for the Federal Government.
“We also want to thank the good people of Anambra, traditional rulers, town unions leadership, Security agencies, the media for their invaluable cooperation and support,” he said.
