The last has not been heard about the last minute cancellation of formal reception of six defecting members of the Enugu State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the Labour Party.
The event scheduled for Michael Okpara Square, Enugu last Saturday March 24th was canceled at the last minute after the assembly members involved had congregated at the square with some friends and families waiting for the arrival of the state chief executive and the PDP big wigs to come and receive them officially into the PDP.
It was gathered that since the news of their proposed defection became public, the governor has been inundated with complaints from PDP members that the defecting lawmakers have no electoral value to build on, as their victories in the 2023 election was basically on Peter Obi’s influence.
Ikengaonline gathered that when it became obvious that the governor was not going to attend the event, the legislators were left stranded at the venue as the gathering, mostly their supporters also started leaving the arena one after another.
Sources from various camps of the legislators told our correspondent that many of the assembly members had prepared foods and drinks to be consumed by their supporters at the reception venues immediately after their defection to the ruling party in the state.
“Some of them hired hotels for reception while some planned their receptions at their homes. It was a big disappointment,” one of the sources said.
