Mrs Lovina Igwe, a nursing mother, who was kidnapped on her way from Enugu to Egede in Udi Local Government Area of the state on April 22, 2024 by suspected Fulani Herdsmen has praised God for her freedom.
Mrs Igwe was abducted by the gunmen while traveling to her hometown Egede to deliver her baby but as fate could have it she delivered a baby boy in the bush while in the kidnappers den.
Speaking after she was discharged from hospital Igwe said that all the while she was with the kidnappers she prayed that if they must kill her, they should at least spare her baby.
She said while in the bush with her captors, she never knew they would spare her life as her abductors, Fulani herdsmen, demanded N10 million ransom but they later reduced it to N1.6million which her husband paid to secure her freedom.
“I thank God that I am alive and my baby boy.
“While I was in the kidnappers den, I thought I was going to die.
“They demanded for N10 million ransom and threatened to kill me if ransom was not paid.
“All the while for three days that they held me in the bush, I kept praying that if they must kill me, they should at least spare my baby.
“My anxiety heightened when they threatened to kill my baby first before my face before they will kill me.
“I thank God that I am alive to tell the story,” she said.
She also expressed gratitude to Gov. Peter Mbah for paying her medical bills at the hospital where she was taken care of when she came out from the kidnapper’s den after the ransom.
She also thanked immensely the timely intervention of the Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, whose men swooped in and went after the kidnappers and caught two of them.
“I don’t know how to thank God. Peter Mbah who took me to the hospital and later paid our hospital bill and my child and I am now safe and sound. I also thank the Commissioner of Police who sent his men after the fleeing kidnappers.”
