The Federal Government has reconstituted the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State, with Prof Joseph Essien as Chairman.
According to the statement released by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, the inauguration and retreat of the Councils would hold on May 30 and 31, 2024 respectively.
Professor Essien had served as Research Advisor with SPDC, Nigeria and undergone Science and Technical Training for Water Quality Monitoring and Management of Sustainable Water Resources at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology, Gwangju-Korea.
He is a Research Fellow for the International Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Research (ICEESR), University of Uyo. He is currently the Head, Department of Microbiology & Vice Dean of Science at the University of Uyo, Nigeria.
Other members include; Dr Churchill Okonkwo, principal lecturer and the immediate past Chairman, Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), FCE (T), Umunze chapter. Dr Okonkwo is currently the Vice President COEASU, South-East Zone.
Other members include: Sommidah Ishemu, Rt.Hon. Ya’u Abdullahi Dan-Shana and Odewumi Samuel Olubisi.
In her response, the Provost, Prof Tessy Okoli, commended the Federal Government for appointing people of pedigree into the Council. She expressed gladness that a staff of the College, Dr Okonkwo, made the list and congratulated him on such an outstanding feat.
Prof Okoli expressed hope that the new Council, when inaugurated, would drive the developmental initiatives of institutions.
