Ahead of the 2024 Imoka festival, Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has warned criminals against hiding under the guise of the celebration to perpetrate crime.
The CP gave the warning following the information received overtime on how miscreants under the guise of the festival become unruly and make life unbearable for people of the State especially visitors, non-indigenes, and indigenes of the town.
During a meeting with some organisers of the cultural festival comprising the Speaker of Eze Ezu Awka community, the Palace Secretary of Eze Ezu, the Youth leader, and other stakeholders in Awka in his office at the State Police Command, the CP warned criminal elements to desist forthwith, reiterating the Command’s commitment enforcing law and ensuring public safety.
The CP said “the festival of such magnitude that is bid to start tomorrow 28/5/204, the community has not formally informed the Command.”
He said he has directed the deployment of Officers to intensify confidence-building and crime prevention patrols in some identified areas in Awka.
He urged the people to work with the Police to make sure the celebration goes hitch-free. He also encouraged residents alike especially the Awka indigenes to be law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious during the celebration and at all times.
