Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Ossy Onuko, has called for increased focus on the education and healthy living among children in Anambra State.
Onuko made the call in a press released to commemorate the 2024 Children ‘s day celebration in the State.
He urged youths in the state and beyond to shun anti-social behaviors such as drug abuse, cultism, and examination malpractice. He emphasised the importance of focusing on their studies, which he said brings hope for their future and the future of the state and country at large.
He further appealed to parents to continue their efforts in sending their wards to school, especially girls stressing that educating girls reduces infant and maternal mortality and discourages early child marriages.
The ACTDA boss highlighted the efforts of Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, in providing a conducive learning environment that have enhanced, deepened, and expanded the frontiers of knowledge. He noted that Governor Soludo has prioritised training teachers in modern teaching techniques, which was why Anambra was leading in various competition.
He commended the Wife of the Governor Mrs. Nonye Soludo, for introducing healthy living initiatives in the state and bringing them to the grassroots, especially in schools while urging parents, guardians, and children to embrace the healthy living campaign championed by Mrs. Soludo, adding that it was the best option to ensure health and longevity.
Mr. Onuko however called on parents and guardians to adequately care for their children, recognising them as future leaders.
