The Enugu State Government has said it had embarked on an audacious education reform project.
Governor Peter Mbah stated this when he inspected some dilapidated buildings at the Government Technical College (GTC) Enugu.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ndubueze Mbah, said his administration had commenced the establishment of eight brand new Science, Technical and Vocational Schools (STVS), for Senior Secondary 1 to Senior Secondary 3 students across the eight Federal Constituencies in the state.
He noted that work had already started at the premises of GTC for the construction of the first of the smart STV schools.
According to him, the first model was focusing on science and technology where children, who have finished from the Enugu smart green schools as well as graduates, who have no jobs will be trained in the areas of emerging technology including Robotics, Augmented reality, Mechatronics, Coding, programming, and ICT.
“The second model is the school of Building and Architecture, while the third is the Science Technical and Vocational Schools of Industrial Agriculture,” he said.
He said that the present administration wanted to bring back the lost glory of the GTC, Enugu to ensure that it reflects the new opportunities of industrialisation, economic development and youth empowerment.
He stated that the government had identified dilapidated GTCs in the state, and assured that his administration would establish Senior Secondary Smart Schools and also upgrade tertiary institutions.
The principal of the school, Mr. Christopher Isife narrated their ordeals caused by the dilapidated buildings and commended the governor for coming to their rescue.
