The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts in promoting diversity in the recruitment of teachers in Anambra State.
Chairman of JONAPWD in Anambra State, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke, praised the governor for taking steps to ensure that teachers from all backgrounds, including those with disabilities, have equal opportunities to be employed in the education sector.
In a statement he made available to Ikengaonline, he said the association is overjoyed with the recent employment of over 40 qualified teachers with different disabilities into the state’s workforce.
He stated that the governor’s commitment to inclusivity has sent a positive message to people with disabilities across the state.
He added that by actively seeking to diversify the teaching workforce, the governor is not only creating more opportunities for individuals with disabilities, but also bringing unique perspectives, skills, and experiences to the classroom for an equitable society.
The statement read: “We, the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Anambra state chapter, write to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for your recent continued employment of teachers with disabilities within our state’s educational system. Your decision to prioritize inclusivity and diversity in the teaching profession sets a commendable example for the entire nation.
“The employment of over 40 qualified teachers with disabilities not only promotes diversity but also enriches the educational experience for all students. These teachers will bring unique perspectives, skills, and experiences to the classroom, creating a more dynamic and nurturing learning environment.
“Their presence in different schools will not only benefit students with disabilities by providing role models and advocates but also educate all students and other teachers without disabilities about acceptance, empathy, and respect for differences.
“It will also build a more compassionate and understanding society. This initiative will definitely break down barriers and foster a culture of acceptance. Indeed, you are setting a powerful example of social progress and equality for others from different sectors to emulate.
“We want to express our heartfelt appreciation for that show of love and commitment towards implementation of Anambra State Disability Rights Law 2018.
