At least eight persons have been gruesomely murdered in an attack at Umucheke community in Okwe, Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State.
A viral video confirmed that about seven persons and the President General of the community were holding a meeting on Saturday evening when gunmen stormed the venue and opened fire on them.
The hoodlums also set the shop nearby on fire shortly after the shooting and thereafter fled the scene.
The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Aboki Danjuma, together with the Sole Administrator of Onuimo LGA, Dr. Emeka Obi, representative of the Commander 34 Artillery Brigade, Major AI Maikarifi, Commandant NSCDC, Comdt. Mathew Ovye and other security agencies visited the Community for an on-the-spot assessment of the tragic incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Imo state command, Mr. Henry Okoye, while describing the incident as unfortunate, disclosed that the hoodlums who were six in number came with three motorcycles.
Mr. Okoye called on Imo residents to be security conscious and report any suspicious activity to the Police, to enable them put an end to these senseless killings.
He reiterated that the command had commenced investigation to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police commiserated with the families of the bereaved and the entire community members over the unfortunate death of their loved ones and assured them that security agencies in the State are working in synergy to apprehend the miscreants responsible for the dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law.
