Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has assured continuous support to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) with more investment in road construction and provision of logistics for road safety operations and rescue.
Mbah gave assurance at the graduation ceremony of 20 Junior Staff Course 2 participants of the FRSC Command and Staff College, Udi in Enugu State.
The governor, represented by the state’s Commissioner for Transport, Dr Obi Ozor, said that the government recently awarded construction of several roads at the tune of N183 billion and before now improved various roads infrastructure especially within and outside Enugu metropolis.
According to him, we have spent millions in purchasing three heavy duty tow trucks and collaborating with our Ministry of Health to procure 10 ambulances; these logistics will definitely enhance road safety operations and rescue in the state.
“The state government is commending the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, for his strides in supporting training and retraining of the Corps personnel.
“This is a reflection of the visionary leadership of the Corps Marshal, which is meant to further improve the image, capacity, efficiency and effectiveness of the FRSC.
“The state government has given approval for the state’s Ministry of Transport partnership with the FRSC on training and very soon we will work out the modalities to train and retrain traffic control officers of the state ministry,” he said.
Mbah urged the graduating students to continue to be good ambassadors of the Corps and ensure all they learnt would be put into practice to further reduce road crashes and improve safety service delivery in Enugu State and the country at large.
Speaking, the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, assured that his administration would continue to support the College in achieving its full potential, adding that the College was meant to address manpower needs of road transport and traffic administration and management.
The Corp Marshal, represented by the Zonal Commanding Officer FRSC Zone 9 Enugu, Assistant Corps Marshal, Uche Chukwurah, said that the course provided opportunity for military and paramilitary organisations to learn and contribute to national development.
“I must also acknowledge the strong partnership between the Enugu State Government and the FRSC, which has provided the conducive environment necessary for the success of the FRSC Academy and its Command and Staff College.
“We are optimistic that our collaborative relationship with the Enugu State Government will continue to flourish and be strengthened.
“As you (students) return to your respective commands and deployments, I urge you to apply the knowledge and experiences gained from this course in your daily assignments. Once again, congratulations to you all,” he said.
Earlier, the Acting Commandant of the College, Corps Commander Joseph Udoabba, appreciated the Corps Marshal and management of the FRSC for logistic and financial support that led to the huge success of the course within its three months duration.
Udoabba noted that the graduating students performed exceptionally well in their academics, operational, group work and research works, adding that the students took managerial, command, operational, legal and ICT application courses among others.
Responding, the overall best graduating student, Superintendent Route Commander Obinna Okeke, who spoke on behalf of the graduating students, appreciated the FRSC management for giving them the opportunity to learn in the prestigious college.
Okeke, who won the Commander-in-Chief Golden Award for exemplary performance, said that being fully transformed, the students would ensure that their commands and departments would gain from their learning at the college to further reduce road crashes nationwide.
The highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of Pass Junior Staff Course (PJSC) award to all the graduating students.
