Anambra State Government has confirmed the release of the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon Patrick Aghamba, and his wife, who were kidnapped on Friday.
The release was confirmed by Christian Aburime, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
He stated that Aghamba and his wife were released on Saturday night after spending a day in captivity. He said no ransom was paid for their release.
“The commissioner and his wife have been released by the special grace of God. We were able to secure his release,” he said.
Some gunmen had kidnapped the commissioner, alongside his wife, at an undisclosed location along the Edo-Kogi Expressway, on their way to Abuja to attend the wedding of Adaora, the daughter of the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, which was held on Saturday.
They were said to be travelling in a commercial Toyota Sienna bus with other passengers.
It was gathered that one of the commissioner’s aides, who was also on the journey with him, was killed in the process.
