Media Adviser to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Val Obienyem, has refuted the rumor of Mr. Obi’s arrest by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his home in Anambra State.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Obienyem dismissed the report as false and baseless.
He clarified that the rumour first surfaced on Saturday and was quickly debunked. However, the misinformation continued to spread despite the denial.
Obienyem emphasised that Mr. Obi was not in Anambra State at the time of the alleged incident. He explained that Mr. Obi was in Rwanda attending important engagements on Saturday and has since returned to Nigeria, currently in Edo State, actively participating in party and national matters.
He clarified that there was no DSS operation at Mr. Obi’s residence and no arrest was made. Additionally, Obienyem refuted the claim that Mr. Obi’s wife was arrested, labeling it as a fabrication to mislead the public and cause unnecessary panic among supporters.
Obienyem urged the public to disregard the falsehood and stay vigilant against the spread of misinformation. He assured that any official communication concerning Mr. Obi will be released through proper channels.
Obienyem also reaffirmed Mr. Obi’s dedication to the nation and assured that his team will provide accurate updates on his activities.
