The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commision (ENSIEC) has declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates winners of last Saturday’s local government election in the state.
The Chairman of ENSIEC, Prof. Christian Ngwu, who declared the results in Enugu, said the Commission did an excellent job of conducting free, fair and credible polls.
Ngwu, who also doubles as the returning officer for the chairmanship positions for the polls, said that ENSIEC carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes.
He, however, said that the commission was yet to get a full compilation of results of the 260 ward councilorship positions declared at the various 17 council areas headquarters.
He expressed joy at the victory of the state’s ruling party, PDP, and described the election as peaceful.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Chairman-of Udenu Council Area, Aka Eze Aka, has said that his election was a new beginning for the people of the area.
While addressing the people when the result of the election was announced, Aka said, “Today marks the begining of a new phase of hope for me and the people of this local government that have sacrificed this day to elect me the Chairman of Udenu LGA.
He said he stood tall with pride and patriotism in his heart with a deep sense of gratitude and indescribable joy.
“I therefore on behalf of my family say thank you for this singular effort that defines the next four years or thereabout, of hope, of commitment and an ultimate resolve to take this local government to an enviable height.
“I am humbled and honoured to accept this electoral offer to be the Mayor of Udenu LGA. The massive support from the people of Udenu is unprecedented. I shall never take this for granted.
“I shall reiterate my words during the tasking campaign trips and toils that: I SHALL NOT DISAPPOINT UDENU. You have shown that when a community comes together, united by a shared purpose, nothing is impossible,” Aka said.
He added that, “I respect your choice; I honour your courage, I appreciate your determination and fervent commitment to a better future for our beloved Local Government Area.
“Let me put in a word or two to tell you of Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s steadfast adherence to a purposeful government. His Excellency’s support in this enterprise has been awesome and uplifting.”
He said the campaign was easy as it was buoyed by his achievements and goodwill and I am eternally grateful.
According to him, during their visits in the campaign, they were able to ascertain the various needs of the people.
“Our people need the basics of life with working infrastructure under a secured environment.
“We as a new government shall be committed to fulfilling our campaign promises which are anchored on these shared vision.
“It is an outstanding advantage that the government of the day at the state have shown the way and shall be a guiding light,” he stressed.
He, on behalf of his deputy chairman, Mrs Anthonia Odo, thanked the party hierarchy for allowing them the platform to contest.
While describing PDP as a bastion of democracy he thanked its leadership in the state as well as in the local setting.
“My campaign Director General Mr Chinedu Onuh is an awesome character with a voluble mastery of the game of politics. I owe a lot to him.”
He commended Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), for conducting free, fair and credible election.
