Igbos have been urged to hold strongly onto issues of freedom, Justice, equity, good conscience and respect for women, children and the disabled in the society to enable them make a better society.
Former Secretary to the Imo State Government, Hon. Uche Onyeagocha made the call while speaking at the September edition of Ikengaonline monthly town hall meeting.
Speaking on the topic “Shaping Future Leaders: The role of political grooming in South East Governance,” the former lawmaker maintained that respect for women, children and the disabled is a true measure of success of any society.
He decried the fact that people misunderstand the Igbos as people who aggressively pursue issues of wealth to the detriment of community, noting that the Igbos have as part of their culture, a natural mentorship system which has been recognized globally by international institutions.
The former SSG said that the Igbo boi-boi system has been identified as one of the greatest hubs towards the development of great entrepreneurs.
He noted that there was an urgent need to go back to the traditional and cultural means of growing and developing future leaders, using institutions like the age grades and the church as a leadership training agencies as was done years past to train today’s leaders.
Onyeagocha therefore called on the youth to take advice from the older generation, pick some of their strengths, understand their weaknesses and allow it flow with their own experiences.
