Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, Sunday, swore in the newly-elected council Chairmen of the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
The new Mayors were sworn in at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House Port Harcourt, few hours after the Chairmen were issued Certificates of Return by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Adolphus Enebeli.
The election was held on Saturday in a tensed environment with the Nigeria police withdrawing from providing security.
Recall that the Action Peoples Party, APP, virtually swept the Council poll held Saturday across the state as it won 22 out of the 23 seats while Action Alliance won one seat.
The ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, did not win any seat.
