Rights activist and the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, Friday said that the Nigerian Immigration Service stopped him from leaving the country, claiming that his name is on its watchlist.
The rights activist who made the disclosure in a post on his X handle, said his right to free movement was being infringed.
Sowore was, in a video accompanying the post, observed querying an Immigration officer over his ordeal.
He wrote: “The Nigerian Immigration Service #nigimmigration continues to subject me to unwarranted harassment and abuse. Violating my rights repeatedly.
“Today, again, they stopped me on my way out of Nigeria, claiming I am placed on their WATCHLIST!”
Sowore had upon his arrival to Nigeria in September, been arrested at the Murtala Muhammad International Airport Lagos.
He participated in the recent October 1 protest against hardship.
