The people of Ohaozara, Onicha, (Ohanivo) and Ivo Federal Constituency have honoured a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Roy Umahi, for his outstanding achievement in the legal profession.
They gave the award at the second Edition of the Ohanivo cultural Carnival and Talent Hunt at the Central School, Egunkwo, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Mr Umahi, who is the Elder Brother to Minister for Works, David Umahi was recently elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
The Carnival was sponsored by the Lawmaker representing the constituency in the House of Representative, Kama Nkemkanma.
Speaking at the event, the Lawmaker called on his constituents to continue to support one another and champion causes that will uplift the constituency.
“This unity carnival, started last year by the federal lawmaker, was born out of a collective desire to strengthen the bonds that tie the 10 traditional clans that make up the constituency, which is bestowed with diverse rich arts and culture that make it unique,” he said.
He noted that the constituency which is made up of Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Local Government Areas, has each constituent community having its own festival such as the Aju Festival, New Yam Festival, Wrestling, Cultural Dance, Age Grade Rites, Masquerades, among others.
“Also, OHANIVO people are diligent and are known for certain arts such as mat making, palm wine tapping, salt production, pottery, blacksmithing, wood carving, and so on.
“It is with immense joy and gratitude that I welcome you all to the second edition of the OHANIVO Unity Carnival. As your representative, it is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you on this remarkable occasion, an occasion that showcases the spirit, culture, and unity of our beloved constituency.
“Last year, we embarked on a journey with the maiden edition of this Unity Carnival. It was a vision born out of our collective desire to strengthen the bonds that tie us together, celebrate our rich heritage, and create a platform for fostering collaboration and understanding among our people.
“The overwhelming turnout and successes recorded during the inaugural event proved that the Ohanivo Constituency is not just a collection of communities and villages but a family united by shared values and aspirations.
“This year, as we gather once again, we do so with renewed enthusiasm and an even greater commitment to unity, peace, and progress. We will not have just a carnival, but also witness the grand finale of the Face of Ohanivo Beauty Pageant and the Ohanivo Talent Hunt,” he ssid.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s carnival, “Celebrating Our Heritage, Building Our Future Together,” the lawmaker reflected on his unwavering belief in the power of community and his determination to lay a solid foundation for generations to come.
He commended Governor Francis Nwifuru, whose exemplary leadership and continual support, he noted have provided a fair and peaceful environment for lawmakers to operate and provide impactful representation to the people.
The Lawmaker noted that the Ohanivo Unity Carnival is more than a celebration but a movement.
“It is a call to action for all of us to embrace our diversity as a strength and to work collectively for the advancement of our community.
“Through the vibrant displays of culture, music, dance, and art that we will witness today, let us be reminded of the richness of our heritage and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
“Today, we also gather to celebrate the beauty, talent, and creativity of our young people. We are proud to provide a platform for our youths to showcase their skills, confidence, and charisma.
“The Face of Ohanivo Beauty Pageant and Ohanivo Talent Hunt are more than just competitions – they are opportunities for our young people to shine, to build their self-esteem, and to develop their skills in various areas,” he added.
