Police operatives on stop-and-search duty in Okigwe have intercepted a forty-year-old lady, Ms Onyinyechi Emeka, from Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Abia State, en route Ebonyi State with a five-year-old boy alleged to have been kidnapped.
The suspect initially claimed the boy was her sister’s son, but inconsistencies in her statements and the boy’s display of remarkable awareness, raised suspicion.
The boy provided his father’s phone number, leading to his identification as a missing child who had been stolen from his mother’s shop at No. 22 Chimezie Street, Obohia, Abia State, and reported to the state police command.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had collected ₦30,000 from a syndicate that remains at large to deliver the child to a buyer in Ebonyi State.
The Police spokesperson in the state, Mr. Henry Okoye, in a statement, confirmed that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and to apprehend other syndicate members.
He further stated that the suspect will face prosecution upon conclusion of investigations.
