Contrary to speculations, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has debunked social media reports that its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has been relieved of his appointment by President Bola Tinubu.
INEC dismissed the trending reports as fake, and urged members of the public to disregard it.
The report which INEC described as false, had claimed that Mahmood was sacked and replaced with one Prof. Olamilekan.
According to Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC boss, there is no iota of truth in the viral report.
Similarly, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, O’tega Ogra, has also refuted the media report, saying it is a blatant lie.
He said: “The Nigerian public should disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman.
“Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or any other appropriate official source,” Ogra wrote.
