A popular philanthropist in Anambra State, Chief Jeff Nweke, has emerged as the candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) for the November 8 governorship election in the state.
Nweke was declared the winner of the primary election held at Jesse Hotel in Awka, the State capital, Thursday. He polled a total of 58 votes out of the 72 total votes cast.
The two other contestants, Amarachukwu Ekwunife, polled 8 votes to come second, while Enemuo Michael polled 6 votes to come third.
James Vernmibe, National Secretary of the party and returning officer, who announced the results declared Ozo Jeff Nweke the winner, stating that he had secured the highest number of valid votes.
He revealed that the party had 105 delegates on the list. Of these, 72 delegates were accredited to vote, and all 72 cast their ballots with no void votes.
Vernimbe further explained that the Option A4 voting method was chosen for its transparency and credibility.
In his acceptance speech, Nweke expressed gratitude to delegates for entrusting him with leadership responsibilities, stating that he is humbled and overwhelmed by the belief in his ability to deliver for Anambra State.
Nweke who pledged not to disappoint the state, assured to prioritize security and job creation in Anambra State.
“Things have been stagnant in Anambra, we want to move the state forward. We are going to do something that the people of the state will begin to believe.
“We are going to bring change that we need in Anambra. We are going to win this election but cannot achieve this without your maximum support,” he said.
Earlier, State Chairman of Action Alliance, Amb Norbert Chukwunwike Okoli, during his speech, declared that the journey to reclaim Anambra State’s glory is gaining momentum.
Acknowledging the state’s tumultuous past, Okoli emphasized that the party’s slogan serves as a guiding principle to address the lingering crises.
