Ben Ezechime, Enugu
Governor Peter Mbah on Thursday commended civil servants in the state for their resilience and unwavering support to his administration.
He stated this during the event to mark the “2025 Workers’ Day” celebrations with the theme: “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the midst of Economic Hardship” held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
It would be recalled that 1st May of every year is usually set aside globally to honour the priceless service of workers and their contributions to nation building.
Mbah, represented by his Chief of Staff, Victor Udeh, acknowledged that Enugu State workers have over the years demonstrated passion for duty.
He said that the labour movement created wealth and the best way to acknowledge that labour creates wealth was by ensuring that the workforce is sufficiently motivated, stating that his administration’s greatest asset lay on the human resources, and promised to always prioritise the welfare of the civil servants.
Earlier, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Enugu State chapter, Comrade Fabian Nwigbo and his Trade Union Congress Counterpart, Comrade Ben Asogwa, while describing Dr Mbah as workers’ friendly governor, appreciated him for transforming Enugu into a modern city within the space of two years.
They said the theme demands and encourages workers, notwithstanding the harshness of the present economy, to stand firm to the essence of unionism and speak out, protest against unfair treatment, engage employers of labour, demand accountability, and defend their rights.
