Police operatives from the Enugu State Command says it had rescued a 13-year-old girl from suspected ritual killers in Umuojor village, in Ishiagu community, Umumba Nduagu community, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
According to a Police statement, the operation was carried out in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch personnel and vigilant group in the area.
SP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the command said that the operation, which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday May 27, 2025, at approximately 3:15 a.m., also resulted in the arrest of three male suspects including Uche Kingsley Agumba (33), Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi (36), and Ejike Odinwankpa (38).
He however, said that the prime suspect, High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu, aka “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show,” a native doctor and prominent figure in the community, managed to flee the scene and is currently at large.
“During the operation, police discovered a concrete-sealed pit within an uncompleted building allegedly used as a shrine by the fleeing suspect.
“Inside the pit were the decomposing bodies of a male and a female, believed to have been murdered for ritual purposes.
“According to preliminary investigations, the rescued girl was moments away from being killed in the same fashion when law enforcement agents intervened,” Ndukwe said.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Bitrus Giwa, who visited the crime scene personally, commended the swift and coordinated efforts of police operatives, local security outfits, and residents.
“This successful operation was made possible through collaboration and vigilance.
“The police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served,” CP Giwa stated.
The spokesperson said that the CP had directed the command’s Tactical Squads, along with the Investigation and Intelligence Units, to intensify the manhunt for the fugitive native doctor and any other accomplices still at large.
The police have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may aid the arrest of the fleeing suspect. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in response to the gruesome discovery, the Enugu State Government has demolished the buildings owned by the fleeing prime suspect and allegedly used for the criminal activities.
