Anambra State Civic and Social Reformations Office (ANCISRO), on International Day of Boy Child, May 29, 2025, addressed the challenges facing boys and young men in general.
The event, with the theme, “Boys Today, Great Men Tomorrow,” attracted dignitaries to their office, at old Government House, Awka.
It was a one day occasion that featured a keynote lecture and discourses, as well as interactive sessions for boys from various secondary Schools in Awka metropolis.
ANCSRO organized the event in collaboration with a non-governmental organization, E-KEEPAS.
The Managing Director of ANCISRO, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, announced that the theme: “Boys Today, Great Men Tomorrow,” was carefully selected and indicated that they selected boys from secondary schools as core audience due to the need to begin early to enlighten the male gender on what it takes to be a man; especially to prepare them to be great men and upcoming leaders of a great society, which Anambra is set to achieve. He stressed that the goal is to shape their character, guide their values and also help them grow into responsible and respectable men who would lead with integrity and high values, in the future.
The Chairman of the occasion, Anambra State’s Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, pointed out the need for society to focus on the challenges faced by boys today; stressing the importance of integrity.
He highlighted the core massage of the programme, the importance of building a strong moral and ethical foundation, inorder for boys to become responsible, respectiful and successful men in the society.
He explained that celebrating boy child is a way of providing the nessessary support to guide them against some challenges like drug abuse, peer pressure, cultisim among others. In conclusion, Dr Mefor clearly said that when boys are nurtured and guided properly, they grow into men that make positive contribution’s in the society.
The keynote speaker, Dr Akachukwu Maduakonam, directed his presentation on the vital roles and responsibility of the boy child in the society. He indicated that boys are also future leaders, fathers and role models. He advised them to grow with discipline, integrity and a clear sense of purpose in order to build a better society, through hard work and moral uprightness.
On his part, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on women affairs, Okoye Nkiru, one of the discussants of the day enlightened the boys on the importance of setting their priorities early in life, that values shape one’s future. She pointed out that reputation, integrity and good character are far more valuable than any amount of money or wealth acquired through dishonest means.
Dignetries that attended the event included Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha Mbah; President General of youth arm of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU Youth), Comrade Ken Okoli who was the second discussant; Managing Director of Anambra State Waste Management Agency (ASWAMA), Sir Mike Ozoemena; Managing Director Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), Mr Chris Molokwu; Anambra State Commander of Youth Ordaliness Enforcement Volunteer Corps, Dr Joe Ekwunife; E-KEEPAS; the National Orientation Agency of Nigeria (NOA); different church leaders and teachers from the participating schools which comprised Community Secondary School, Okpuno; Nwafor Orizu Memorial Demonstration School, Awka; Grand Hermano Secondary School, Awka; Rehoboth Secondary School among others.
