The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged stronger and more united after its 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, according to Senator Bukola Saraki, who is leading the PDP reconciliation.
In a statement via his X handle on Monday, Saraki described the meeting as a “symbolic gathering” that could have been a breaking point but instead became a turning point for the party.

“The winner today is the PDP. Another winner is Nigeria’s democracy because, without a vibrant opposition, democracy dies,” the former senate president, said.
He attributed the success of the meeting to the leaders’ resolve to “jettison our differences and rally together to pursue a common goal: forget the past, rebuild trust that might have been broken, and give peace a chance.”
Saraki highlighted two key takeaways from the meeting: the agreement on the need for unity and the spirit of give-and-take that dominated the discussions. He emphasized the importance of sustaining this spirit towards the next NEC meeting and the National Convention.
“I want to appreciate all our leaders, particularly those who have to make huge sacrifices by conceding their earlier stands on some contending issues as a way of achieving peace, unity, and stability in the party,” Saraki said.
He expressed gratitude to the leaders who chose to act in the interest of the party, even at the expense of their personal comfort. Saraki attributed the success of the meeting to the intervention of Almighty Allah and emphasized that the party still has a lot of work to do.
The PDP leader dismissed claims that party members who remained in the PDP were scheming for its demise, saying, “If this false narrative were true, the leaders who shifted positions to give peace a chance would have chosen an alternative course of action.”
Saraki reaffirmed the party’s determination to become a strong opposition capable of winning the next general election and serving the Nigerian people better.
