The Nigeria Police Enugu State Command says it has arrested a male suspect, Emmanuel Gambo, a 22-year-old second-year student of Material and Metallurgical Engineering in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), in connection with the murder of Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem, a 22-year-old lady found dead in a hotel room in Nsukka, Enugu State.
In a statement by the command the suspect checked into a hotel in Obukpa road, Nsukka, with the deceased on June 14, 2025.
According to the Police, a dispute arose when the lady was said to have demanded for an additional N15,000, after a second round of intercourse.
The disagreement turned violent, and the suspect strangled her to death, wrapping her body in a towel and a curtain and hiding it under the bed.
According to the police investigation revealed that the suspect provided a false name and unreachable phone number on the hotel’s registration form, which initially hindered efforts to trace him.
However, acting on credible intelligence, the police detectives located and arrested the suspect at his lodge in Nsukka on July 2, 2025.
The command also confirmed that the deceased’s iPhone, Redmi tablet, and earbuds have been recovered from the suspect, who had confessed to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bitrus Giwa has commended the detectives for the successful arrest of the suspect.
Giwa has reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring justice, security, and the rule of law across the state.
CP Giwa also urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and wards and cautioned young people against indulging in social vices and succumbing to negative peer pressure.
