The Enugu State Police Command says it has dismantled a local firearms fabrication workshop in Affa, Udi Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the police disclosed that assorted firearms, cartridges, firearm repair tools, generator sets, and other exhibits were recovered from the scene.
The statement read: “On June 30, 2025, at about 4 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided and dismantled the workshop located in Amofia-Agu, Affa, Udi LGA.”
The operation, according to the police, followed the arrest and confession of one Ekene Okafor, 32, a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, who had earlier been apprehended for conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Ndukwe said the suspect led operatives to the workshop, where his locally made cut-to-size gun was being serviced by the workshop owner, who fled on sighting the police.
Items recovered from the scene include a locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two English-made double-barrel guns, eight single-barrel guns, two live cartridges, eight expended cartridges, three generator sets, various gun repair tools, and other exhibits.
He said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing owner of the workshop.
The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for the successful operation.
The CP also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling the proliferation of illegal firearms and related crimes across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to continue providing credible information to the police.
