The security surveillance team of Governor Peter Mbah has vowed to flush out criminals hiding in the forests of Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The team made the declaration during a visit to the community as part of its surveillance strategy.
Residents, including stakeholders, youths, and women, turned out in large numbers to welcome the delegation led by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Security, Mr. Vincent Onyeabor. The team arrived at the Ogbete, Eha-Amufu Joint Task Force (JTF) Security Camp aboard three helicopters.
They were accompanied by officers of the Nigerian Air Force and the International Helicopter Flying School (IHFS), Air Force Base, Emene, Enugu, led by Air Commodore D.E. Laha and Wing Commander O. Adeniyi.
The security delegation also visited Aguamede community in Eha-Amufu, where they were received at St. Paul’s Model Secondary School by the Chairman of Isi-Uzo LGA, Barr. Obiora Obeagu, along with community leaders, including the Anglican Bishop of Eha-Amufu Diocese, Bishop Daniel Olinya, and the traditional ruler of Aguamede, Igwe John Odo Anyika.
Addressing concerns about helicopters frequently seen in the area, Onyeabor clarified that they were not being operated by criminals.
“This is why we decided to come here with some of those helicopters—to reassure you that they are not enemies but friends from the International Helicopter Flying School, on routine training missions. You should feel safe and wave when you see them,” he said.
He noted that the collaboration between the state’s security team, the Air Force, and the flying school had significantly enhanced aerial surveillance and helped deter criminal activities.
“Their training missions are only one part of the story. The other, more critical part is that their operations help us monitor activities in these forests. In Enugu State, we have zero tolerance for insecurity,” Onyeabor stated.
“The governor has said it repeatedly: we have no room, no forest, and no space for criminal elements.”
