…Rally in Abia to mark Obi’s birthday

The Obidient Movement, Abia State chapter, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step down from his rumoured 2027 presidential ambition and support Mr. Peter Obi, describing such a move as the ultimate act of patriotism.
While acknowledging Atiku’s past contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey, the group urged him to crown his efforts by backing Obi, whom they described as possessing the “magic wand” to rescue and reset the country.
The Obidients specifically appealed to Atiku not to contest the presidential ticket of the coalition African Democratic Congress (ADC), but rather throw his full weight behind Obi, in what they termed a genuine show of love and sacrifice for Nigeria.
The call was made during a one-million-man march across Abia State on Saturday, held in celebration of Obi’s 64th birthday. The rally took place simultaneously in Umuahia, the state capital; Aba, the commercial hub; as well as in Ohafia and Uzuakoli.
Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, Dr. Chibuzor Obiesili, Chairman of the Organising Committee and a state coordinator of the Obidient Movement, appealed to Atiku to consider national interest above personal ambition.
“Alhaji Atiku has played significant roles in Nigeria’s political evolution, but his greatest legacy would be to support Obi in 2027. Nigeria needs a quick fix, and Obi has what it takes to deliver,” Obiesili said.
He commended Atiku and other opposition leaders for their role in forming a united front against President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, but urged the coalition to zone the presidential ticket to the South and adopt Obi as its candidate.
“We appreciate the efforts of all those behind the coalition. However, Obi has the pedigree, the integrity, and the national appeal required to dislodge the APC. We humbly plead that the ticket be given to him.”
On the reason for the birthday rally, Obiesili said the demonstration was a spontaneous, voluntary show of love for a leader who continues to stand for the oppressed and downtrodden.
“Peter Obi has consistently advocated for the poor and has shown exemplary leadership. He is a man of character, transparency, and compassion. That’s why Nigerians are celebrating him,” he said.
He added that Obi remains the most credible political figure in the country today.
“If we see another politician as clean and transparent as Obi, we will also celebrate them. But for now, none comes close,” he stated.
Obiesili prayed for long life and good health for Obi and expressed hope that his dream of leading Nigeria as President would one day come true.
“Our earnest prayer is that God will grant him the opportunity to preside over the affairs of this country,” he declared.
The rally featured a jubilant procession through major streets in Umuahia, with participants singing solidarity songs and dancing as residents cheered them on.
Highlights of the event included visits to correctional centres, hospitals, and orphanages, where the Obidients donated relief items in honour of Obi’s birthday.
Similar rallies were held in other states across the country to celebrate the former Anambra State governor.
