Unknown gunmen early hours of Sunday abducted a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Izu Onyeocha at Ihube Community in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to credible sources, the hoodlums invaded the community at the wee hours with sporadic gunshots and whisked the priest who is also a professor at Imo State University away.
As at the time of filing the report, the whereabouts of Onyeocha, who is a native of Avuru Community in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state is yet to be known.
When contacted, the Imo Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Orlando Ikeokwu confirmed the incident.
Ikeokwu said that the details of the incident were still sketchy, adding that some members of the community where the incident happened were already st the station to report the incident.
Recall that the state has been passing through security challenges lately.
Recently, hoodlums invaded the police command headquarters and the custodial facility of the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCS) in Owerri and destroyed property worth millions of naira.
The hoodlums also released several of the inmates at the NCS custodial facility.
