Former presidential candidate and the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has rallied support behind Nigeria’s Super Falcons as they prepare to take on the hosts, Morocco, in the finals of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), tonight.
Taking to his X account on Friday, the face of Nigeria’s opposition politics and former governor of Anambra State, hailed the team’s resilience, patriotism, and unyielding spirit, urging them to make history by clinching Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title.
“To our fearless Super Falcons,” Obi began, “you have carried the hopes, dreams, and pride of an entire nation with extraordinary courage and excellence throughout the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.”
Obi described the female national football team as more than just a football team but the pride of Africa.
“You are more than just a football team – you are the pride of Africa and the heartbeat of Nigeria. You represent the spirit of resilience, unity, and what it truly means to never back down,” Obi said.
He also reminded the girls that the they were carrying the dreams of millions of Nigerians who are rooting for them and charged them to go all out tonight to win knowing that the entire country were behind them.
“As you step onto the pitch tonight in Morocco, know that you are not alone. You carry with you the dreams of millions, the strength of a people, and the indomitable Naija spirit.
“We stand with you – united, unwavering, and proud.
“Go forth and conquer, Super Falcons.
“Bring the trophy home!,” Obi charged.
The Super Falcons are yet to lose a match in the tournament so far as they lock horns tonight with the Moroccan Queens in a bid to achieve ‘Mission X’ by winning their record tenth African title.
