President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, have celebrated Nigeria’s Super Falcons for winning their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, hailing their performance as a source of national pride and a testament to the Nigerian spirit.
The Super Falcons clinched the 2025 WAFCON trophy in Morocco Saturday night, reaffirming their dominance as the most successful team in African women’s football.
In two separate tweets shortly after the final whistle, President Tinubu expressed the nation’s joy, saying, “I just spoke with our Super Falcons. On behalf of all Nigerians—at home, in Morocco, and around the world—I told them how proud we are. They have lifted our spirits with their brilliance, resilience, and unity.”
He further praised the team’s spirit and consistency.
“They chose to accept this mission. They understood the assignment. Our Superior Super Falcons delivered in true Nigerian fashion. Never say Never. They went. They saw. They have conquered again! 10-time champions of Africa. #MissionX: COMPLETE!”
Also reacting, the face of the Nigerian opposition, Peter Obi lauded the players for their resilience and excellence, describing their victory as a historic milestone.
“Not just the first to get it done, but the best to ever do it. A big congratulations to our outstanding Super Falcons of Nigeria for becoming the African Women’s Football Champions and winning the 2025 WAFCON,” Obi tweeted.
He added: “I watched as our girls never gave up. Just as I said before the game, it was an exemplary display of the indomitable Naija spirit. This is more than a win—you have shown true dominance in African football. Today, history bows to your greatness. Congratulations, Super Falcons. Mission X—done and dusted. A new Nigeria is POssible.”
