Wife of the Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, has inaugurated a newly constructed three-bedroom bungalow donated to a widow in Obuchie Amajim Ameka village, Ezza South Local Government Area.
The project, executed under her pet initiative — the Better Health for Rural Women, Children and Internally Displaced Persons Foundation (BERWO) — underscores her commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable women across the state.

The house, designed to offer safe and dignified shelter, was built in collaboration with the Ebonyi State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and other development partners.
According to the First Lady, the initiative followed months of planning, community engagement, and collaboration with stakeholders aimed at supporting those often neglected in society.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Mrs. Nwifuru emphasized the moral responsibility to care for widows, noting that the gesture transcends mere infrastructure.
“Today, we stand not just on bricks and mortar, but on love, compassion, and shared humanity. This home stands as an enduring testament to our commitment to those who have lost so much, yet remain pillars of strength in our communities,” she said.
Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Francis Ori, lauded the First Lady for her compassion and unwavering dedication to women’s welfare. He also commended the BERWO Foundation and the contractors for delivering the project successfully and pledged continued government support for similar initiatives.
The beneficiary, Mrs. Nwuka Nike Nwankwo, expressed deep gratitude, overcome with emotion.
“I never imagined such kindness would come my way at this stage in my life. May God bless and protect you and your family,” she said tearfully.
This housing donation forms part of a broader mission by the BERWO Foundation to uplift rural women and promote inclusive development across Ebonyi State.
