The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the August 16 senatorial bye-election in Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Emmanuel Nwachukwu, has vowed to ensure the completion of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s unfinished projects in Anambra State.
Ubah served as the senator representing Anambra South from 2019 until his death on July 26, 2024.
Briefing journalists in Awka, the state capital, yesterday, Nwachukwu said that if elected to represent the people of the zone, he would prioritise completing all projects initiated by the late senator before embarking on new ones.
“Every project that Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has put in his budget and has started will not be abandoned. I’ll do everything possible, at least in his memory, to make sure that those projects are funded and completed. There is no need to pursue new projects when you have projects that are 20 or 30 percent completed,” he said.
Nwachukwu, who described erosion-prone Anambra South as “the ecological disaster of the country,” pledged to use the office to attract interventions that would address the menace of flooding in the area.
“Anambra South is an ecological disaster in this country. There is hardly any community that is not ravaged by erosion. People often point to sand mining, blocking of drainages, and other causes. When I emerge, I will influence a high-level conference on the environment in the state and bring experts from across the continent and the world so we can learn from them,” he stated.
The former President-General of Ukpor Improvement Union said his decision to contest the vacant Senate seat was driven by the desire to provide authentic and impactful representation for his people.
“I’m running because I want to offer authentic and impactful representation to my people. I come from a senatorial zone greatly blessed with the most successful businessmen and women in the state,” he said.
Nwachukwu added that he plans to promote industrial and commercial ventures, empower youths, and secure opportunities in federal ministries for people from Anambra South.
“I intend to have a cross-party parley with legislators at both the national and state levels, where we will jointly consider the problems of our constituency and solve them in a magnetic way,” he concluded.
