The Enugu State Government has commenced the training of no fewer than 1,000 science, technical, and vocational teachers to improve standards and introduce the latest educational innovations in classrooms.
Dr. Amaka Ngene, Chairman of the Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB), disclosed this in Enugu while officially declaring the training open.
The programme, tagged “21st Century Pedagogy in Science, Technical and Vocational Education”, began on August 1 and will run until September 12, 2025.
Ngene said the training, alongside future sessions, would reposition learning and improve academic outcomes for students in science, technical, and vocational schools.
According to her, the programme—organised in partnership with the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu—is designed for all teachers in science, technical, and vocational schools under the STVSMB.
“This training is one of the many ways His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, is preparing our educators for 21st-century professional growth and helping them adapt to modern innovation and technology.
“It also reflects his unwavering commitment to sustaining the professionalisation of the teaching profession in Enugu State,” she said.
Ngene said the board had streamlined the training to ensure that “no teacher who is willing to learn will be left behind.”
She noted that the programme would retool teachers with modern and innovative teaching skills.
“For years, our teachers have not received training. They will now learn new approaches to teaching using ICT, other technological tools, and practical application of the new equipment provided by Governor Mbah to enhance learning in the state,” she added.
She further disclosed that the state government had fully funded the training and provided accommodation for participants.
Earlier, the Provost of the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Dr. Stella Ekwueme, commended Governor Mbah for his “uncommon strides and commitment to improving education at all levels” in the state.
“Governor Mbah is building 260 smart schools, has recently paid arrears owed to staff of this college, funded the accreditation of our courses, is constructing the Centre of Learning and Innovation, and has increased our subvention, among other achievements,” Ekwueme said.
She assured the STVSMB that the college would abide by all terms in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the board, adding that its lecturers were ready to deliver on the agreement.
Ekwueme urged the teachers to take the training seriously and seek clarification on anything unclear, noting that the programme would have a strong practical component.
