President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, returned to Nigeria from London early Monday morning, looking fit and energetic, thereby dispelling rumours about his health.
Reports had circulated on social media alleging that the Senate President was critically ill and receiving treatment in a London hospital. However, Akpabio dismissed the claims as false and mischievous.
“There’s nothing like that. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” he told journalists on arrival.
Akpabio had earlier attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, held between July 29 and 31, before proceeding to London for what he described as a brief rest after a busy legislative year.
The Senate President landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 4:00 a.m. and was received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters from various walks of life.
Addressing the press, Akpabio promised Nigerians vibrant legislative engagements when the Senate resumes. He also defended Nigeria’s strong participation at the International Parliamentary Union in Geneva, assuring that the nation would continue to reap the benefits of democratic governance through effective collaboration among the arms of government.
