The Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Dr. Caleb Ani, has called on residents of the council to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Ani made the appeal in a statement issued on his behalf by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Sammie Agbo, on Tuesday in Enugu.
He described the Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) as “the most powerful instrument for influencing governance and safeguarding the people’s future.”
According to him, democracy begins with voter registration and collection of the PVC, which serve as both the people’s voice and their pathway to shaping a collective destiny.
“Your PVC is your power. The road to a better tomorrow begins with CVR registration,” Ani said.
He urged all eligible residents — particularly first-time voters aged 18, those seeking transfers, replacements of lost cards, and others yet to be captured in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) database — to seize the opportunity without delay.
Ani further explained that registration was ongoing at the Enugu South Local Government Secretariat from Mondays to Fridays, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., stressing that the process is free of charge.
He also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, women’s organisations, and civil society bodies to intensify grassroots sensitisation campaigns to encourage massive turnout.
“Democracy thrives when people participate, and your vote is the key to transformative change,” he said.
Ani reaffirmed the council’s commitment to inclusive governance, noting that every citizen’s participation is vital to deepening democracy in Nigeria.
