Human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has urged the newly appointed Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, to uphold professionalism and prioritize human rights as he assumes his new role.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Effiong, who said he had previously worked with Hundeyin during his time as Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Lagos State, described him as “a fine police officer who would like to see the image of the Force improve.”
While congratulating Hundeyin on his elevation, Effiong cautioned him against adopting the style of his predecessor, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, whom he accused of failing in his public engagement duties.
“Please know that we do not expect you to tow the ignoble path of your predecessor, DCP Muyiwa Adejobi. The man you are succeeding went to great lengths to embarrass himself and the institution of the police. He had little regard for human rights. His public relations strategy was a failure,” Effiong wrote.
The lawyer said many Nigerians, particularly those who interacted with Hundeyin in Lagos, would be closely watching how he navigates his new assignment in Abuja.
“My advice to you is that you should define your own career path. Do not try to mimic your predecessor. The eyes of the country are upon you,” he added, while wishing Hundeyin “the courage to discharge your responsibilities creditably, and the wisdom to handle public issues properly.”
Hundeyin’s appointment as FPRO was announced on Thursday by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Ikengaonline reports that the new FPRO replaces Muyiwa Adejobi who has be redeployed to Delta State Police Command.
