Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki
A youth leader, Emmanuel Obasi Okike, from Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on Wednesday completed a 670-kilometre trek from Ilorin, Kwara State, to Abakaliki.
Okike, who began the journey on August 25, 2025, arrived in the Ebonyi State capital at about 3 p.m., looking visibly exhausted.
He described the experience as turbulent, noting that due to insecurity along the Ekiti/Okene road, he had to reroute through Bida, Suleja, Zuba, and Lokoja before making it to Abakaliki.
According to him, some people urged him to abandon the journey, but he insisted on completing it.
The youth leader explained that he embarked on the trek to appreciate the member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency, Hon. Nkemkanma Kama, for what he described as “unprecedented quality representation” at the National Assembly.
“I decided to celebrate the member representing Ohaozara, Onicha, and Ivo Federal Constituency in an uncommon way—something no one else has ever done in the history of the constituency.
“In just two years, I have seen visible results: Hon. Kama has renovated schools, sunk solar-powered boreholes, organized free holiday lessons for students, and constructed roads, bridges, and other amenities.
“We have never had it this good. I don’t think anyone’s record can match his achievements in just two years. That is why I decided to trek 670 kilometres from Ilorin to Abakaliki to honour him in this unusual way.”
Okike said the journey took him 19 days and tested his resilience.
“It was not easy at all. I faced insecurity, fatigue, and discouragement. At some point, I had to change my route completely to stay safe. But I am a man of my word. Lack of confidence is the only barrier that can stop someone from achieving what they want, and I was confident I would complete it,” he said.
Receiving him on behalf of Hon. Kama, Senior Legislative Aide David Ogbonna, said the lawmaker deeply appreciated the gesture and would not take such love for granted.
Kama announced a cash gift of N2 million to Okike “to take care of his body” and promised to host him at a dinner soon.
Okike’s 670km trek comes barely days after another man, Jeremiah Obaji, completed a 633km trek from Ikorodu, Lagos State, to Abakaliki. Obaji was rewarded with N10 million by Governor Francis Nwifuru, who received him last Sunday.
