Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has cautioned the public against falling victim to fraudulent advertisements using his image and likeness without authorisation.
In a statement on Saturday, Obi expressed concern over the increasing use of AI-generated images of him by individuals and organisations to promote various products online. He described the practice as unauthorised and fraudulent.
“Ordinarily, I would gladly support any genuine endeavour by Nigerians that contributes positively to our nation and to the people involved, but not without authorisation,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor explained that while some of the adverts may appear harmless, others have been exploited by unscrupulous persons to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. He stressed that he has no affiliation with any such endorsements, products, or business schemes.
“Despite numerous rebuttals issued by my team, these practices have persisted. This has therefore compelled me to once again caution the public to exercise vigilance and to disregard any such adverts linking me to products, endorsements, or business schemes,” he added.
Obi reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, integrity, and supporting ventures that genuinely promote the common good of society.
