The newly appointed Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, Commandant Bridget Asekhauno, has pledged to collaborate with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to enhance road safety awareness and promote a better society.
Asekhauno made the commitment while receiving officials of the NUJ, who paid her a courtesy visit on Monday.
She said: “I’ve been impressed by the support we’ve received from journalists since my arrival. Road safety is a collective responsibility, and journalists have shown great commitment to spreading our message.
“Journalists in Anambra have consistently published our news through their media platforms. If we were to pay for these services, it would be costly. They often publish our stories without charge, which is invaluable. We are truly grateful for their support, and in return, we are happy to collaborate with them.”
The NUJ delegation was led by its Chairman, Comrade Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, alongside Council Executives, Chapel Officials, and members.
In his remarks, Comrade Odogwu said the visit was aimed at fostering mutual understanding between the Corps and the media to promote safety, security, and public enlightenment.
He noted that the activities of government agencies can only be amplified through the media, adding that the press will also not remain silent when issues arise that require attention.
The NUJ Chairman highlighted the long-standing partnership between the NUJ and FRSC and expressed optimism that the renewed collaboration would yield positive results.
He further noted that over 1,500 journalists in the state are law-abiding and willing to partner with government agencies like the FRSC to build a safer and better society.
