The Association of Marketing Academic Professionals (AMAP), the foremost body of scholars and intellectuals in marketing education in Nigeria, has appointed Professor Promise Chika Oparah, as its new President.
Prof. Oparah, a distinguished scholar and Professor of Strategic Marketing at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, also serves as Deputy Director I of the UNIZIK Centre for Capital Market Studies and Coordinator of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. He is a Fellow of the Association of Marketing Academic Professionals of Nigeria and holds several other professional affiliations.
Within UNIZIK, Prof. Oparah has held key administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Marketing and Deputy Director I of the UNIZIK Business School.
He is also one of the few Nigerians featured in Africa Who’s Who under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) category, with a special focus on Logistics and Supply Chain Management.
As AMAP President, Prof. Oparah is expected to strengthen the association’s role as the authoritative scholarly voice for marketing education in Nigeria, with a clear mandate to review, propose, and advocate for more robust and contemporary marketing curricula across universities, colleges of education, and polytechnics.
Members of the association congratulated Prof. Oparah on his election, describing it as a testament to his outstanding scholarship, leadership, and dedication to advancing marketing education. They also pledged their full support for his administration to further the professionalization of marketing as a distinct academic discipline.
Prof. Oparah was unanimously elected during the 2nd Annual General Meeting of the Association of Marketing Academic Professionals held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt.
