The Founder of Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), Professor Gregory Ibe, has expressed shock over the passing of renowned gospel preacher and international evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai.
Rev. Ukpai passed away earlier this month at the age of 80.
In a tribute signed by his Special Aide, Rev. Sleek Ogwo, and made available to Ikengaonline, Prof. Ibe described the late evangelist as a “spiritual giant” whose legacies will endure for generations.
“I join the global community in mourning the loss of a spiritual giant, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, whose impact on global Christianity will be etched in our hearts for generations to come,” the tribute read in part. “For over six decades, he proclaimed the Gospel with fervor, touching millions of lives across the globe.
“His dedication to evangelism, dynamic teaching, and prophetic ministry inspired countless individuals, including myself, to deepen their faith and commitment to the body of Christ. As founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, he reached the unreached, brought hope to the hopeless, and demonstrated God’s love through selfless service.”
Prof. Ibe condoled with the family of the deceased and prayed for divine strength and comfort for them.
“To his family, particularly his wife, Pastor Philomena Ukpai, and their children, I offer my deepest condolences. Your loss is not yours alone; the global Christian community shares in your grief. May God’s comfort and peace envelop you during this difficult time,” he stated.
He further urged Nigerians to celebrate the life and ministry of the revered evangelist, noting that his contributions to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria and the global Christian community would remain indelible.
“As we bid farewell to this great servant of God, we take solace in the promise of eternal life. His legacy will continue to inspire and challenge us to live lives that honor God. May his memory serve as a catalyst for spiritual revival and growth in our world.
“Rest in the Lord, dear Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai. Your labour of love will eternally impact the body of Christ.”
