Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, under the aegis of The New PDP in Enugu State, have vowed to unseat Governor Peter Mbah and reclaim the state for the party in the 2027 general elections.
The stakeholders made the resolution at a meeting held on Thursday in Enugu, where they reviewed Governor Mbah’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement jointly signed by Dr. Godwin Udibe (Chairman) and Chief John Nwobodo, Esq. (Secretary), the group criticised the governor for abandoning the party that brought him to power.
“We are poised to reposition the PDP to defeat Mbah and reclaim the Enugu State Government House in 2027,” the statement declared.
While acknowledging the governor’s constitutional right to freedom of association, the stakeholders condemned any attempt to dismantle the PDP structure in the state.
“Notwithstanding the vacuum created by the governor’s exit, we make bold to state that there are more than enough able, competent and progressive members ready to reposition the party,” the statement added.
The group insisted that the PDP remains a formidable political force in Enugu and that the defection of the governor and others would not diminish its chances in the forthcoming elections.
They resolved to commence an immediate rebuilding and reconciliation process under the banner of The New PDP Enugu State.
The stakeholders also commended the national leadership of the party for its ongoing restructuring efforts and preparations for the forthcoming National Convention.
“We specially commend the National Convention Organising Committee led by Governor Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa for their steadfast commitment to organising a successful convention. We also appreciate the appointment of Senator Ben Obi as Secretary of the Committee to replace Governor Mbah, the erstwhile Secretary,” the statement concluded.
The New PDP further pledged to embark on immediate reconciliatory efforts aimed at uniting all members of the party across the state.
