President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in the nation’s security leadership with the appointment of new Service Chiefs as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
According to a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President named General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as the new Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, particularly General Musa, for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” and urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence reposed in them.
He further charged the new military heads to “enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”
All the appointments, the statement noted, take immediate effect.
